Music and Sound for Video Games
Vertical Score Redesign
Original Game: Zelda: Breath of the Wild
I reimagined the iconic Breath of the Wild soundtrack with my own dark fantasy twist, drawing inspiration from the haunting orchestration of Elden Ring and similar titles. My approach emphasizes a choir-dominated arrangement, bringing a more ominous and cinematic feel to the world of Hyrule.
This soundtrack was composed in Logic Pro, utilizing exclusively MIDI instrumentation with minimal sampling. The accompanying video was meticulously beat-matched in Logic Pro, and I also developed an FMOD project to explore vertical score integration for dynamic in-game implementation.
Below, you’ll find the full soundtrack.
Foley Replacement Demo
Original Game: The Last of Us: Part One
Recreating The Last of Us was a unique challenge due to its complex environments and dynamic gameplay. In this foley replacement demo, I focused on two distinct settings, incorporating four terrain types: tile (café), water, dirt, and metal.
All foley elements—from footsteps to cloth movement—were recorded in a non-studio environment using a Tascam Portacapture X6. Each sound underwent extensive cleanup in Logic Pro to match the high-quality audio standards of a AAA title like The Last of Us.
To enhance the realism, I integrated field recordings from my recent trip to India, including swamp and tropical bird sounds, which I binaurally mixed to create a more immersive environmental atmosphere. Finally, I recorded my own breathing and effort sounds using a Shure SM7B, carefully editing them to match Joel’s original voice for added authenticity.
